Considering today’s fast-paced world, it’s important to ease out and relax a bit from the hectic schedule of work. Old School was released in 2003 by DreamWorks Pictures and The Montecito Picture Company under the direction of Todd Philips. The movie stars Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Will Ferrell, Jeremy Piven and Ellen Pompeo with a box office collection of $87 million. The plot of the movie revolves around three depressed guys in late thirties who wants to live their glory days of college once again and starts a fraternity house near an imaginary Harrison University in Upstate New York housing campus. The comedy begins when the dean of the university appears to be someone whom the trio have hassled during their college days. The plot gets comic as the movie progresses with the attempt of the dean to thwart the fraternity house and at the same time the attempts of the trio to ensure its presence. After a long time, it was actually the relief to watch a movie with some actual funny moments.

Burn After Reading is an American comedy film which was released in 2008, written, produced, edited and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen. It is a multi-starrer movie with stars like George Clooney, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton and Brad Pitt. The budget of the movie was around $37 million and it bagged a whopping amount of $163.7 million making it one of the biggest hits of 2008. The movie revolves around two dim-witted personal trainers who come in contact with a CD which they believe has confidential information and tries to sell them as a reward. However, after initial negotiations which do not proceed as planned, they attempt to sell it to the Russian embassy. The plot gets interesting when the Russian ambassador turns out to be a spy for the CIA and the information on the CD, not at all classified and important. The movie has many funny scenes and punch lines and the best of all, “I guess we learned not to do it again”, said by the CIA director despite not knowing exactly what they did, is the funniest moment of all.

The Legend of Ron Burgundy: Anchorman is a 2004 comedy film which is a humorous depiction of the culture of the 1970s, particularly the new Action News format. The movie stars Will Ferrell and Christina Applegate as the lead pair and was released in 2004. It was directed by Adam McKay and produced by Judd Apatow. The plot of the movie goes around a male chauvinist, Ron played by Will, who is threatened by the entry of Veronica played by Christina in their news team. After many unsuccessful attempts to seduce Veronica by Ron as well as the team, she agrees to go on a tour of the city with Ron, ending up in his bed. But as she starts gaining popularity, Ron’s insecurity increases and he breaks up with her. The plot further involves the cat and mouse fight of the lead pair to prove themselves and belittle the other one. The hilarious moment of the movie is the climax where a bear fight ensues, which ultimately brings the 2 lovers back. The movie bagged huge profits by earning $90.6million worldwide.

The Heat is a 2013 American action comedy film directed by Paul Feig and written by Katie Dippoid. The movie centers around the FBI agent, Sarah Ashburn played by Sandra Bullock and Boston Detective Shannon Mullins played by Melissa McCarthy. The movie starts with Sarah showing off her expertise in effective investigation, however, is despised by her colleagues because of her vicious personality. With another mission to capture a drug dealer in Boston, she flies to Boston and has her first encounter with Shannon, a loudmouthed, short-tempered and dirty cop. Unwillingly, they both have to work on the same case and in due course of time, while bonding over drinks in a bar, they realize that they can be a great team and ends up completing the mission successfully. Yet another movie of Sandra Bullock with exceptional acting and great timing.

Yet another American comedy released in 2009, is written by Todd Phillips, co-produced by Daniel Goldberg and written by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore. This is the first part of the successful Hangover trilogy. The film has Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Heather Graham, Justin Bartha and Jeffrey Tambor. It is a story of 4 best friends who go to Las Vegas to celebrate the bachelor party of one of them, Doug. After having drinks at the bar, they woke up next day with no memory of last night and Doug missing. After the initial shock of memory loss, some more shocks are on their way with a tiger in the bathroom, chicken in their living room, a baby in their closet and many more. In the pursuit to find their lost friend, Doug, they come face to face with a mob a gangster, try to free their friend by returning the money they never took only to find out that their friend was never in the captivation of the gangsters. Where exactly do they find Doug is the end of the movie with loads of laughter waiting for you.

Yet another comedy movie by Paul Feig, was released in 2011. This multi-starrer movie has Kristen Wilg, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Wendy McLendon-Covey, Ellie Kemper, Chris O’Dowd and Jill Clayburgh. The plot is around 2 best friends, Annie and Lillian played by  Kristen and Maya respectively, out of which, Lillian is getting married and asks Annie to be her maid of honour. Annie, who is already suffering through a series of misfortunes, takes the responsibility to plan her wedding. Due to her previous failures and the other mean bridesmaids of Lillian, her whole plan for the wedding backfires and Lillian asks her not to be her maid of honour anymore. As usual the story ends up with “all well that ends well” with Annie being Lillian’s maid of honour and finally meeting the love of her life.

Mean Girls, released in 2004 is yet another American teen comedy directed by Mark Waters and starring Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Tim Meadows, Ana Gasteyer, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. The movie collected an enormous amount of $129 million globally and a sequel was released in 2011, “Mean Girls 2”. The plot of the movie focusses on a 16-year-old Cady Heron who is homeschooled and joins a public school for the first time. Initially being troubled by the “mean girls” of her school, the movie portrays her journey from being the shy girl to reimagine herself as spiteful and superficial and back to being herself at the end of the movie, thus proving the saying, “all’s well that ends well”. One of the funny parts of the movie is at the end when “Junior Plastics”, as they are called has risen and Cady imagines them being hit by the bus.

Wedding Crashers was a 2005 American romantic comedy movie which made humongous profits by earning around $285 million worldwide with only $40 million budget. This movie proved to be an anchor for adult-oriented R-rated comedies. The movie has Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn as the lead characters who are professional divorce mediators. The movie revolves around the 2 leads who try to catch attention of the daughters of the U.S Secretary of the Treasury, and are almost successful when their true identities are revealed. Later, one of them actually falls in love with one of the daughters and the other, when finds out about the “betrayal” of his friend, becomes lonely and suicidal. The whole plot is extremely funny with moments like one of them getting shot in their buttocks, and one of them getting seduced by another guy. The movie ends on a lighter note with all of them finding their true love.

American Pie is a series of sex comedy films wherein, the first film was released in 1999 with Jason Biggs, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Eddie Thomas and Chris Klein in the lead as four friends. Throughout the first film, Jason tries to develop a relationship with the school hottie, Nadia played by Shannon Elizabeth. There are many funny scenes in the movie, one of which can actually ruin apple pie for many out there. Another hilarious scene is when the parents are trying to “educate” their kids. The movie is the depiction of the attraction developed during the puberty stage in a funny manner. The movie made phenomenal profits by earning $235,483,004 worldwide with a budget of only $10 million.

One of my favourite movie when it comes to comedy and animation as a combination. Despicable Me was released in 2010 by Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment which was an exceptional hit with earning $546.1 million with a budget of $69 million. This is the movie which introduced the world the cutest characters, minions. The movie revolves around a supervillain, Mr. Gru who is unhappy about someone stealing the Great Pyramid. To prove himself better, he decides to steal the moon and to get an edge over his competitor and to infiltrate his competitor’s nest, Gru adopts 3 orphaned girls and the story moves on as the bond between Gru and the 3 orphaned girls increases. The 3 orphaned girls, Edith, Margo and Agnes are a treat to watch. The movie is filled with comedy, drama and action having numerous moments which makes you laugh as well as cry. This is one movie which one should definitely not miss if you are in love with animated movies.
